Environmental Allergies
Environmental allergies, including seasonal allergies, are on the rise. As well as other autoimmune problems they affect more and more people. For the past 15 years, the number of people suffering from some form of allergies has tripled. Up to 30% of people have symptoms attributable to allergies. Not only environmental allergies affect more people, the symptoms get more severe with time. Many people have atypical symptoms not readily attributable to environmental allergies such as frequent headaches, fatigue, joint pains, various aches and pains, chronic cough, frequent upper respiratory infections, recurrent bronchitis and sinus infections and others.
Environmental allergies are frequently an underlying cause of many recurrent health issues.
Many people develop asthma-like symptoms due to mold allergies. Mold is ubiquitous in the environment and a person’s immune system can be up-regulated and start reacting against various molds with the onset of respiratory symptoms.
There are multiple reasons for a dramatic increase in people suffering from environmental allergies: a large amount of processed and GMO foods produced and consumed, frequent unnecessary use of antibiotics and immune modulating agents, exposure to electromagnetic radiation, very common deficiencies of vitamins, most importantly vitamin D, lack of physical activity and many others. Prescription and over the counter allergy medications help with symptoms without addressing the underlying cause of the environmental allergies. These medications can get less and less effective over time.
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, treats the underlying cause of environmental and seasonal allergies. Symptoms start going away until completely resolved. Allergy shots desensitize a person’s immune system to allergens, meaning help the immune system not to overreact to allergens – therefore uncomfortable symptoms that a person has suffered from go away.
Allergy shots are safe
Since administered in a very gradual manner starting from an extremely low dose of allergens. Patients feel better within 1-2 months of weekly allergy shots. In order to start immunotherapy, it is necessary to do allergy testing first to see which allergens and to what degree affect a person’s body. In the office, we check for 70 various allergens- spring, fall, year-round allergens, mold, dust mites, allergens to pets including dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs and several others. Based on the patient’s symptoms and allergy testing results, Dr. Litvinova offers a course of treatment which is individual for each patient. Dr. Litvinova successfully treated many patients who suffered from allergies over the past 8 years.
If you have uncomfortable allergy symptoms or unexplained symptoms which interfere with your lifestyle, please make an appointment to be evaluated whether you are a good candidate for allergy testing and treatment.
